What Makes our Program Stand out?
Over 35 years, NJN has developed a holistic recovery program focused on personal and spiritual development and a supportive community.
Character Development
Daily readings and sharing on human values of honesty, companionship, forgiveness, respect, etc.
Fellowship especially older members being responsible for the new comers
Program of Alternatives to Violence (AVP) teaches many lifegiving methods of character-building and leadership
12 step meetings and reflections on each step
Psycho-therapy
All community members participate in group and individual therapy to help the person express their mistakes in a non-judgmental environment and experience healing.
Art Therapy
Creative art, therapeutic writing, and journaling, poetry are helpful in addressing deep seated truths and encourage healing
Outreach to Larger Community
NJN serves the community through supplying food to those in need. In cooperation with Philabundance, NJN conducts a weekly distribution of free food. Additionally, we have a food shelf of non-perishable food available for members of the neighborhood. During the season, vegetables are available from the NJN vegetable garden.
Community Service
Through service to the NJN community, members learn to focus on the needs of the community as a whole, instead of themselves. All members participate in daily community service — gardening, cleaning, landscaping, caring for Peace Garden, and cleaning trash throughout the street.
Celebrations
We build community through celebrating each other’s successes. When a member reaches 1 year of sobriety, EVERYONE celebrates. We invite family members, friends, program alumni, and the neighborhood. We also rejoice together for birthdays and holidays.
